An 11‑year‑old girl has allegedly been defiled by her 61‑year‑old grandfather in Choma, Southern Province.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the incident, which happened on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at around 21 hours in Namuswa Village, Chief Chooma’s area.
Mr. Namalongo explained that the suspect broke into a makeshift structure where the girl was sleeping with her younger siblings, aged 8 and 5.
He added that upon hearing noise, the children’s father rushed to the structure and found the suspect allegedly having carnal knowledge of the girl.
Mr. Namalongo said the suspect has since been detained.
